MANILA, Aug. 4 (PNA) — Nine out of the 11 Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) stations are now selling beep cards since its launch last month, a transport official said Tuesday.
LRT spokesman Hernando Cabrera, on his official Twitter account, confirmed that only two more LRT-2 stations — J. Ruiz and Recto stations — have yet to pilot test the new ticketing scheme.
“Beep cards are now available in Anonas, Gilmore, Cubao, Pureza, V. Mapa, Santolan, Katipunan, Betty-Go Belmonte and Legarda Stations,” Cabrera said.
The beep card ticketing system also known as the tap-and-go system or the Contactless Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) is the DOTC’s first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project under the Aquino administration.
To recall, during its first pilot at the Legarda Station on July 20, only minor glitches were encountered under the new system which typically involved the ticket vending machines (TVMs).
Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, however, assured that “no major issues were experienced.”
While beep cards remain in its testing phase, management will initially sell them for Php20 in activated stations’ TVMs and designated windows.
The new tickets may be used to exit from any LRT-2 station, and may be reloaded at any of these locations as well. The minimum amount that the system requires to be loaded is Php12, and the maximum is Php10,000.
DOTC has meanwhile encouraged the passengers using the new beep cards to give feedback, comments and suggestions to help the agency improve the rail system’s services. (PNA)
