ILOILO CITY, Aug 3 (PNA)– Power provider Panay Electric Company’s (PECO) patience is wearing thin amid the inaction of telecommunication companies (telcos) vis-à-vis the former’s repeated notifications to the latter to detach their cable wires from PECO electric posts so that its technical teams could proceed with the relocation of the posts unimpeded in connection with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 road expansion project.
Engineer Randy Pastolero, vice-president for PECO operations, said uprooting the poles posed difficulty for his men due to the cable wires, and their transfer made little headway the last six months, or even more.
Traffic along the Benigno Aquino Highway (Diversion Road) at Mandurriao district all the way to Brgy. Ungka in Jaro district is being slowed down by electric posts still standing near the center of the widened highway.
A final notice was sent Monday to the telecom companies, and PECO was hoping it would bring finally the telcos to terms and make the work easier. However, should they continue to display indifference, PECO said the cable wires would be taken down and left on the side of the road.
DPWH-6’s road-widening project, which extends to the Iloilo Airport in the town of Cabatuan, is down to the wire as Iloilo City plays host to the APEC meetings come September of this year. (PNA)
