ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 3 (PNA) – The Bureau of Customs (BoC) is set to forfeit in favor of the government the shipment of 12,000 sacks of rice of 25 kilos each worth Php 9.6 million.
The shipment was intercepted aboard a wooden-hulled ferry that arrived last July 28 at the local port coming from General Santos City.
Jessie Dellosa, BoC deputy commissioner for intelligence, said Monday they issued last Friday a warrant of seizure and detention of the cargo.
“The next steps are legal proceedings and forfeiture,” Dellosa said in a press conference here.
The BoC withheld the rice shipment after the crew of the vessel failed to present pertinent documents of the cargo.
The shipment of rice, labeled “Turon Naik Halal long grain commercial rice” was consigned to two businessmen from Jolo, Sulu. (PNA)
