Selection process for next Navy chief, NOLCOM head underway

Posted on August 3, 2015

MANILA, Aug. 3 (PNA) — With the retirement of Philippine Navy (PN) flag-officer-in-command Vice Admiral Jesus C. Millan just a week away, the Armed Forces on Monday announced that the selection process for the latter’s replacement is now on.

Also underway is the selection process for the next Northern Luzon Command head as Lt. Gen. Felicito Virgilio M. Trinidad is also scheduled to retire on Aug. 14.

Both officials will leave the military service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

“In the coming days or weeks, there will be changes in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, particularly in the Navy and NOLCOM leadership,” said AFP spokesman Col. Restituto Padilla.

“As of now, the process is happening. Appropriate recommendation for any retiring officer within the major service units are prepared at the major service levels and forwarded to the general headquarters. These recommendations are going to be deliberated on by the board of generals (BOG),” he added.

Padilla said the BOG “is scheduled to meet anytime for the important positions that will be vacated.”

The BOG consists of the military’s most senior leaders, with AFP chief-of-staff as head and the vice chief-of-staff and the deputy chief-of-staff along with the heads of the Navy, Air Force and the Army as members.

And after much deliberation, the BOG will then submit a shortlist of candidates for the soon-to-be vacated posts to the President through Defense Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin. (PNA)
