RIZAL, Nueva Ecija, Aug. 2 (PNA) — A suspected illegal drug peddler who was listed no. 2 in this town’s most wanted persons was arrested Friday by authorities after concerned citizens sought police action through the agency’s text messaging system, the provincial director said on Sunday.
Senior. Supt. Manuel Cornel, director of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO) identified the suspect as Edison Pumaras,36, single and resident of Purok 8, Barangay Bicos, this municipality.
Cornel said Pumaras yielded five bricks of marijuana leaves with fruiting tops partially wrapped in newspaper and two transparent plastic sachets.
Cornel said the operation against Pumaras was conducted on the strength of the search warrant issued by Judge Primo Sio, Jr, executive judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 23 in Cabanatuan City.
Cornel said police sought the warrant after weeks of surveillance that was prompted by information sent via TXT 2920 to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame.
“The headquarters informed us of the text messages it received regarding the alleged illegal activities of the suspect,” Cornel said.
Charges of violation of Sec. 11 of Republic Act 9165 was filed by the Rizal Police station against Pumaras.
Pumaras expressed regrets, saying he now realized the evils of his activities. (PNA)
