Paalam Sec Serge Remonde

Posted on January 20, 2010

The Press Photographers of the Philippines (PPP) mourns with a heavy heart the sudden and untimely passing of Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

Surely, Secretary Remonde is a big loss for us at the PPP and the world of journalism as a whole. Since he took over as Press Secretary he had been very supportive of our projects that were all designed to uplift the living condition and protect the interests of the photo journalists especially the members of the PPP.

Despite being criticized often for his stands on various issues he never wavered in his commitment in protecting and defending press freedom in the country.

On behalf of the PPP, we wish to reiterate our condolences to his family and loved ones.

Sec. Remonde will be missed. Paalam!

VP Noli on Sec Remonde’s death

I grieve the unexpected passing away of Secretary Cerge Remonde, both as a fellow public servant and as a colleague in media.

As a public servant, Sec. Remonde performed his job with peerless commitment and dedication, winning goodwill for the government through his unassuming and humble ways. As a journalist, Sec. Remonde remained true to the ethics of his profession, was a tireless leader of the broadcast industry and a friend and mentor to his fellow media practitioners.

We shall miss his calm and composed presence and his graciousness even in the face of major odds. He is leaving behind a legacy of outstanding service to the government and to the media industry that shall serve as a lasting inspiration.

Statement of Sen Loren Legarda

I grieve over the untimely death of Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

While he had a most difficult job as spokesman of the administration, he had performed his task with flair, eloquence and dedication, providing the public with a clear and concise articulation of the viewpoints, positions and pronouncements of the administration.

He was a loyal and capable spokesman of the government. In a democracy, it is important that the two sides or many sides of any question pertaining to public matters should be presented openly in public. He had done this competently. He also had a clean slate in public service.

We will sorely miss him.

NPC mourns Remonde

PHILIPPINE NEWS SERVICE — THE National Press Club of the Philippines mourns with a heavy heart the sudden and untimely passing of Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

Secretary Remonde is a friend who had shown time and time again during his lifetime his commitment and unwavering love for the media profession and a staunch defender of press freedom.

While we may disagree on certain issues, he always see to it that he was willing to listen to our suggestions and concerns, thus earning the respect of our brothers in the profession.

His passing is a great loss not only for the Arroyo administration which he served with distinction and honor but more importantly for the local media practitioners who lost an icon, a leader and a comrade.

On behalf of the NPC, we wish to convey our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.
