5,600 personnel hired for population census in Region 1

Posted on July 30, 2015

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, July 30 (PNA) — More than 5,600 personnel were hired in Region 1 for the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen) to be conducted from August 10 to September 6 this year.

Socrates Ramores, interim regional director of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Region 1, said these personnel will act as census area supervisors, team supervisors and enumerators for the whole region.

Recruitment of these personnel started in May this year in the PSA provincial offices in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte, he said.

The conduct of several levels of training for these personnel already started in June with the holding of training of trainors.

The task force training, attended by PSA regional and provincial heads throughout the country, was conducted on June 29 to July 4 at the Makati Palace hotel in Makati City.

Subsequently, the Second Level Training for PSA-Regional Statistics Service Office I, with regional and provincial personnel as participants, was conducted at Leisure Coast Resort in Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City on July 6 to 11.

The Third Level Training, participated in by provincial and municipal census supervisors, was simultaneously conducted in the provinces of Region 1 on July 20 to 25.

Ramores said that the Fourth Level Training to be attended by enumerators, was held simultaneously from July 27 to August 1 for the first batch and on August 3 to 8 for the second batch in different municipalities in the region.

PopCen 2015, a complete enumeration of households in the country, is primarily designed to take an inventory of the population of the entire Philippines.

It also collects information about some characteristics of the population such as age, sex, marital status, highest grade completed and usual occupation.

It will be the 14th census of population to be undertaken in the country since the first census in 1903.

It aims to provide government executives, policy and decision-makers and planners with population data, on which to base their social and economic development plans. policies and programs.

Incidentally, President Benigno Aquino III issued Proclamation No. 1031 declaring August 2015 as National Census Month and enjoining all departments, other government agencies, including government-owned or controlled corporations (GOCCs) as well as local government units (LGUs) to implement and execute the operational plans, directives and orders of the PSA Board through the PSA relative to the proclamation.
