TUGUEGARAO CITY, July 30 (PNA) — The Department of Health Regional Office 2 (DOH-02) has achieved the health- related targets under the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for the year 2014.
According to DOH Assistant Regional Director Eduard Albano, the particular targets were contained in Goals 4 or reduction of child mortality; Goal 5 or the improvement of maternal health; and Goal 6 or the campaign to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
For child mortality reduction, Dr. Albano said the region has achieved only 8.53 mortality per a thousand population for 2014, way below the national limit or target of 25.5 mortality for a thousand population.
For infant mortality rate, the region has registered only 6.53 cases per a thousand population, far from the targeted limitation of 17 mortality rate per a thousand population.
Meanwhile, region 2’s maternal mortality ratio, which has a national average of 50 per 100 thousand population, only reached 32 in 2014.
However, Dr. Albano challenged all health workers especially those in the provinces to bring to zero or to the lowest levels, the reported cases under the goals of the MDG. (PNA)
