PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, July 29 (PNA) — Over a hundred residents of Kalayaan town in the disputed West Philippines Sea (WPS) are facing food shortage, according Tuesday to its Municipal Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).
MDRRMO officer Joel Rabanal said the main concern of residents of Barangay Pag-asa, Kalayaan right now is what might be a “food shortage” if their supply is not replenished because regular trips to the distant island is almost nil.
Zabanal disclosed that as of current, they have 25 sacks of rice and other food items in stock for their residents, and these are good only for three months.
If no boat trip is scheduled in three months, Kalayaan town’s residents would go hungry.
Zabanal said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Palawan has already been informed about the matter; they are just awaiting action.
Incidentally, the PDRRMO is also training selected residents from Kalayaan for three days on basic life support and first aid.
He said they favor the training as it will enable residents of Kalayaan to be helpful during unexpected times. (PNA)
