PNP to join ‘Metro Shake’ drill on Thursday

MANILA, July 29 (PNA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP), as member-agency of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), will join the Metrowide Earthquake Drill on Thursday, Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor head of PNP-Public Information Office said on Wednesday.

According to Mayor, the metro earthquake drill will be led by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and in coordination with other national and local government agencies and non-government organizations.

The drill is designed to make Metro Manila prepared for a possible 7.2 magnitude earthquake due to the movement of West Valley Fault.

He added the PNP and NCRPO Disaster Operation Centers of the PNP will be activated during the activity as the mirror offices of the NDRRMC and MMDA.

Mayor also said that the over-all supervision of Deputy Director General Marcelo P. Garbo Jr., the PNP Deputy Chief for Operations (TDCO) and Chairman of the Critical Incident Management Committee, all PNP personnel are advised to observe the Phases of an earthquake drill such as Alarm, Response, Evacuation, Assembly, Head count and Evaluation to assess the PNP’s awareness and efficiency during and after earthquake scenario.

Garbo said that the tasks provided and to be observed by all personnel are stipulated in the PNP IMPLAN “SAKLOLO 2014” where a three-stage disaster preparedness and response operations are indicated.

The operations include Pre-Disaster Stage (Pro-active Assessment Stage), Disaster Response Stage (Disaster Incident Management) and Post-Disaster Stage (Support to Recovery and Rehabilitation efforts). (PNA)
