Comelec reminds voters: Local election offices nationwide also accept application for registration

Posted on July 23, 2015

MANILA, July 23 (PNA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is reminding the public that aside from the satellite registration booths in different malls in the country, voters may also register at any local election offices nationwide to be able to participate in the May 2016 polls.

Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said that voters can visit the Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) in their area to validate their registration or have their biometrics taken.

“Don’t wait for #MallRehistro just to register and validate, okay guys? Bukas araw-araw ang Comelec offices para pagsilbihan kayo,” he said in his Twitter account, @jabjimenez.

The city or municipality OEOs are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Sunday to Friday.

Mall-based registrations are being held simultaneously with the voter registration at local elections offices all over the country.

Early this month, the poll body started the satellite registrations in shopping malls after signing separate Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) with Ayala Malls, Robinsons Malls, SM Supermalls, Walter Mart Community Malls, and Pacific Malls.

Meanwhile, Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said that voters continue to flock to malls, applying to become registered voters through the mall-based satellite registration.

He noted that a total of 16,000 applicants went to participating malls last weekend.

“This is a big increase from the first two weekends,” said Bautista.

Records show that a total of 5,485 people registered from July 11 and 12 while 5,229 applied last July 4-5. (PNA)
