BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, July 22 (PNA) — Continuing plantation of vast reforestation areas and establishment of tree nurseries have become among the major forms of support and assistance of OceanaGold Philippines, Inc. for the government’s National Greening Program (NGP).
Through an agreement with the national government, OGPI planted and donated 314,848 tree seedlings in 2014 which covered an approximate area of 627 hectares.
OGPI report also bared the establishment of two nurseries in Sitio Tucod in Barangay Didipio in Kasibu town, also its mine site, to propagate seedlings for reforestation projects.
As of February 2015, total seedlings available for planting number 52,354, said Abe Almirol, senior communications advisor of Didipio mine project.
Some of OGPI’s other support activities are the construction of Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) with total treatment capacity of 1,980 m3/hr, conduct of water quality monitoring from upstream to downstream to ensure that the quality of water is not affected by its operation, and continuous rehabilitation of open/disturbed areas through installation of erosion controls and slope stabilization.
