MANILA, July 22 (PNA) — The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1’s newly installed Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS) is scheduled for testing on Thursday morning, airport authority said.
According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the FDAS will be tested and commissioned by contractor, D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) before the authority accepts it.
This way, the authority can ensure that the entire system works and serves its intended purpose, MIAA further said.
During the activity, horn strobes and bells will be activated. It will be followed by a voice evacuation prompt.
The Automatic Fire Sprinkler System (AFSS) will also be included in the testing and commissioning (without the actual sprinkling of water).
MIAA said that media outlets are meanwhile invited to witness the scheduled testing, which will last for 15 minutes.
The installation of the new system is a part of the government’s efforts to upgrade and rehabilitate the country’s airports.
Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya earlier expressed satisfaction with the development of the NAIA Terminal 1 in particular, saying that it is “much better” than before.
Repairs at the airport began last January 2014 but there were delays caused by a number of technical problems that continue to be addressed. (PNA)
