NUEVA ERA, Ilocos Norte, July 21 (PNA) — The construction of the Ilocos Norte-Abra Road which will serve as a gateway to two regions is nearing completion.
Atty. Aldrin Garvida, Nueva Era mayor, said the 38-kilometer stretch from their town to Danglas, Abra is almost finished.
“It will be completed before the end of the year, officially connecting Region 1 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR),” he said.
The mayor disclosed that at least PHP250-million have already been used on this project which is being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“This road will shorten the travel time from Ilocos Norte to Abra by two hours,” said Garvida.
At present, motorists from Laoag City need to pass through Narvacan, Ilocos Sur to get to Abra – a drive that could take around four hours.
Garvida added that the Ilocos Norte Abra Road will be a big boost to local commerce and even to the tourism industry of the two regions.
“It will surely bring in a lot of income to both Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region,” he said.(PNA)
