DAGUPAN CITY, July 21 (PNA)- The city of Dagupan has improved its overall ranking in the national competitiveness index by jumping 25 notches higher from being number 44 last year under the independent component city category.
The national competitiveness index covered 142 cities and 978 municipalities in the entire country.
According to the National Competitiveness Council, Dagupan has improved its performance in terms of Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency and Infrastructure.
On economic dynamism. it ranked 25th with a mean score of 9,850,343. On government efficiency it was ranked 19th with a mean score of 19,307,995.
The biggest improvement was in the area of infrastructure as the city has increased its ranking from 76 last year to 19 this year, scoring 11, 478,051.
Its overall score for all the areas covered was 40,445,319.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said she strongly believes that with good governance and transparency, Dagupan will further improve its national competitiveness ranking in the years to come with the support of her hardworking department heads and employees to her “unlimited service” program to the people.
The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The higher competitive ranking of Dagupan was spurred by the programs on transparency and good governance introduced by Mayor Fernandez since 2013, spawning greater confidence of businesses and investors on the city government. (PNA)
