ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 15 (PNA) -– The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in observance of the Islamic Holiday of Eid’l Fitr, is conducting a two-day Hariraya Eid’l Fitr Diskwento Caravan in Basilan province.
Eng’r. Rolando Acuña, DTI provincial director, said the two-day diskwento caravan reeled-off Wednesday and is being held at the public market of Isabela City, Basilan. The caravan ends Thursday.
Acuña said basic necessities and prime commodities specifically grocery items are sold at discounted prices by local department stores and distributors.
Acuña said that discount of at least 10 percent is being given by the participating stores and distributors.
He said this year’s Diskwento Caravan differs from the previous years when it was held before the onset of Ramadan.
He explained that the reason for the change is to give the constituents of Isabela City the opportunity to avail of discounted basic and prime commodities specifically grocery items in time for their celebration of Eid’l Fitr.
“This year, we decided to conduct an Eid’l Fitr Diskwento Caravan instead of the usual Ramadan Diskwento Caravan in order to help the Muslim constituents of Isabela City meet their needs and expenses in time for their celebration of Eid’l Fitr,” he said.
Acuna likewise emphasized the importance of Isabela City by making sure that the city also benefits from the programs and projects of DTI.
“Being within the jurisdiction of DTI-Zamboanga City Office, we see to it that Isabela City also benefits from the programs and projects of DTI. Just last month, we conducted a Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan in Isabela City which drew thousands of beneficiaries,” Acuna added. (PNA)
