Technology Resource Center (TRC), the country’s leading technology commercialization organization, is encouraging techno-preneurship as a viable and forward-looking means to attain economic self-reliance.
“Technology-based business ideas have the potential to form the basis for a high-growth commercial enterprise or can be easily licensed to solve a specific market problem,” said TRC director general Antonio Y. Ortiz.
To encourage more techno-preneurs in the Philippines, Ortiz this week announced the staging of the 1st Technology Partnering Forum on February 22 – 24, 2010 at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) in Pasay City.
The event will be a showcase for Filipino-originated technologies from several of country’s educational and research institutions as well as private innovation proponents in the country. It shall feature a Technology Showcase of simple and popular technologies as well as strategic technologies in water, alternative technology and biotechnology among others and will include a business matching service to assist exhibitors and visitors; the Technology Symposium Idea to Liquidity; and the student-oriented Technology Opportunity Camp which will be highlighted by the TeknoBiz Idea Challenge competition.
Expected to attend the TechnoForum will be seed and venture funds, economic developers, angel or seed investors, venture capitalists; academic institutions and the engineering and science education communities, as well as public and private non-profit research institutes. Tech commercialization experts and corporate licensing executives will also be around to lend their expertise to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and other investing communities from around the country and abroad. Supplies vendors and other industrial and service firms, aside from technology proponents and generators, will also be among the technology exhibitors.
“Deal-focused and diverse, the TechnoForum will be the launching pad of emerging technologies by Filipinos and for Filipinos,” explained Ortiz.
