Posted on July 14, 2015

BUTUAN CITY, July 14 (PNA) — The Occupational Safety and Health Center Regional Extension Unit (OSHC REU Caraga) in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Butuan City and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-13 will conduct fire safety and awareness training in two cities and a municipality of the three provinces here in the region on the last week of this month.

This was announced during the monthly press forum with DOLE and its attached agencies and the local tri-media here held at Balanghai Hotel, Tuesday morning.

Engr. Christian Lee N. Jaguit, Engineer II of OSHC REU, Caraga said that a one-day “OSH Fire Safety Awareness” orientation will be held on July 21 at the Villa Maria Luisa Hotel in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. This will be followed by another one-day similar activity on July 23 at the Paseo de San Francisco Hotel, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

Then, a “Fire Safety Training” will be held at the Balanghai Hotel, this city on July 28-30. Jaguit said that the activities aim to upgrade the capabilities of members of the Fire Brigade Team and Safety and Health Committee in implementing workplace fire prevention program and safety and health program as required under the New Fire Code of the Philippines and the Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

”This is part of the action plan of the OSHC in line with the directive of the Secretary of the Department of Labor to conduct an awareness training and orientation on occupational safety and health and fire safety in the light of a tragic fire which hit an establishment at Valenzuela City recently, where 72 workers perished and untold worth of property loss,” Jaguit said.
