CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 10 (PNA) –- Local officials on Friday called for the creation of the volunteer fire brigade in the city’s urban villages here.
City Councilor Edna Dahino made the call after exhorting all local business establishments with 50 or more workers here early this week to form their own volunteer fire brigades.
She said that it is also important for the urban villages to form their respective fire brigades who could “quickly” respond to emergencies.
“Aside from being fire fighters, the volunteer fire brigades could protect lives and properties in times of emergency,” Dahino said.
She said that under the law, all members of the fire brigade shall undergo training from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services and related emergency response.
The city councilor also lauded Fire Supt. Shirley Teleron, the city district fire marshal, for organizing and reactivating the city’s 39 fire volunteer brigades and training 1,141 volunteers last April.
Dahino enjoined all villages and schools here to coordinate with their respective fire stations in order to activate the newly organized fire volunteer brigades in the villages. (PNA)
