TUGUEGARAO CITY, July 10 (PNA) — The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) member agencies of Region 2 have started an Information Education and Communication (IEC) campaign in selected schools in five provinces of the region to educate the public, especially the students, about disaster related concerns.
The five provinces are Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Batanes.
In her statement, Region 2’s DRRMC Chairman Norma Talosig of Office of Civil Defense-2 said, “the IEC campaign is part of the activities in relation to the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month this July”.
Topics that will be given emphasis during the lecture include earthquake preparedness and drill; geologic and hydro-met hazards; weather outlook; and fire safety, among others.
Talosig added, they will also conduct earthquake drills in different agencies and private establishments frequented by people, which have earlier signified interest to host the activity. The conduct of drills will last until July 22.
She also added there would be a quiz bee and a jingle making competition among students in the secondary and tertiary levels.
Meanwhile, other topics include guestings in both local radio and TV programs and the airing in broadcast stations of the Disaster Information Nationwide Awareness (DINA) campaign materials. (PNA)
