Honest NAIA Terminal 1 porter hands back PHP120K cash, cards to owner

Posted on July 10, 2015

MANILA, July 10 (PNA) — In another show of honesty, a pushcart retriever who worked at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 handed back PHP120,000 worth of cash and cards left behind at the airport on Thursday night (July 9).

Porferio Lavado discovered a blue pouch left at the arrival area of the airport on Thursday, past 9 p.m/ which contained cash and assorted ATM and credit cards.

A report from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that the pouch contained bills of various foreign currencies including Chinese Yuan, Hong Kong Dollar, and Philippine Peso bills amounting to PHP120,000.

Twenty assorted cards such as ATMs and credit cards were also found inside the pouch.

Lavado immediately sought the assistance of Airport Police APO2 Pablito Seño before surrendering the pouch to the Intelligence and Investigation Division for proper identification of its rightful owner.

It was later confirmed that a certain Chinese national, Xiren Wu, was the owner of the items after an identification card was found inside the pouch.

Wu was able to retrieve his belongings soon after being paged and expressed gratitude to Lavado and Seño for their retrieving his belongings.

MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado commended both airport employees for their honesty and assured that they will be recognized in a commendation ceremony next month along with other outstanding airport personnel.

The commendation ceremony for outstanding MIAA personnel is regularly done as part of the authority’s way of thanking their employees for reporting lost valuable items found within the premises of NAIA.

During the event, MIAA personnel are given certificates as well as a complimentary breakfast buffet of the General Manager’s office.

“Honesty at work is surely being the norm at the airport,” Honrado said in a statement.

”MIAA has diligent employees such as Lavado and Seño to thank for continuously upholding such a commendable standard of service,” he added. (PNA)
