MANILA, July 9 (PNA) — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has advised Filipinos planning to travel to Greece to bring enough cash as the Greek debt crisis resulted in bank closures and limited ATM withdrawals.
“Due to imposed capital controls and the closure of banks, travelers are advised to have enough cash to cover their stay in Greece and also for emergencies and unexpected expenses,” the DFA said in an advisory Thursday. Greece uses the Euro as currency.
Majority of Greeks over the weekend voted in a referendum to reject the current proposed bailout measures.
While Greece remains safe for tourists, the DFA warned Filipinos of strikes and demonstrations.
“This may occur mostly in the center of Athens, especially in Syntagma Square and in front of the Parliament Building,” it said.
“Filipinos are advised to refrain from being within the vicinity of these gatherings,” it added.
For emergency situations, Filipinos are advised to contact the embassy and to monitor the news. (PNA)
