MANILA, July 9 (PNA) — The prime minister of the United Arab Emirates has ordered the release of 11 Filipinos jailed in Dubai for various crimes, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.
They were among the 734 prisoners scheduled to be released in a still undetermined date in observance of Ramadan, a DFA statement said.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, ordered their release.
Dubai’s Attorney General Issam Al Humaidan announced that the public prosecution has begun the legal procedures to implement the Sheikh’s release order, in cooperation with the Dubai Police, the DFA said.
No details on the actual release date or dates have been provided, but the DFA said it continues to coordinate with the Consulate General in Dubai, as well as the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, to determine whether other Filipino nationals have been pardoned in the other parts of the UAE. (PNA)
