Koronadal poll chief appeals to voters to validate biometric records

Posted on July 7, 2015

KORONADAL CITY, July 7 (PNA) — With three months before the deadline for biometric registration, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Koroandal City has appealed anew to voters to validate registration records.

Lawyer Richard Opinion advised those registered voters to visit the city Comelec office to validate records.

“Those who were registered but have no biometric records with the Comelec cannot vote in 2016,” Opinion said.

Voters were advised to have their photo taken, finger prints and signature to complete their registration with the poll body.

Voters have until October 30 to validate biometric records with the Comelec which launched the campaign “No biometric, no vote.”

Opinion said voters may visit the Comelec office to check if their names were among those with no biometric data or at the barangay halls and Koronadal City hall lobby.

Opinion said more than 2,607 registered voters in Koronandal City have no biometric records.

“I appeal to qualified voters to register, validate, or upgrade registration records as early as possible,” he said.

“People can come to our office because we still have our continuous voters’ registration and avoid inconvenience on both the registrants and the Comelec when deadline draws near,” Opinion said.

He said those who were not able to vote for two consecutive elections that were delisted by the Comelec are also encouraged to upgrade registration records.

The city Comelec office is conducting the voters registration at their office from Monday to Friday, while the satellite registration centers in villages are scheduled every Saturday.

Registrants who do not have available time during weekdays because of work or other valid reasons can ask their barangay officials about the schedule of satellite registration in their respective barangays.

The city Comelec Office has already conducted satellite registration in at least six villages in Koronadal City.

“Once we finish the satellite registration in all 27 villages in August 2015, we will also have voters registration for our inmates at the South Cotabato Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center,” Opinion said.

Comelec earlier launched its campaign to encourage individuals of voting age to register and have their biometric records updated so they could participate in the 2016 national and local elections. (PNA)
