Posted on July 6, 2015

By Simeon C. Dilan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 6 (PNA) — Local officials and farmers of this province and Isabela are very thankful for the ‘blessings’ of light rains that drenched earlier late-planted farms in these provinces were spared from typhoon Egay’s expected devastation this week.

Office of Civil defense (OCD) regional director Norma Talosig, said that although the rains had helped late-planting farmers with rain showers, this did not bring enough to fill in the receding water level at the Magat dam.

Talosig said the rains barely filled in the dam’s 171.2-meter level but it somewhat “eased” the drought.

“We thank God for the weakened typhoon before it can hit Cagayan and Isabela. This is another good day and life for us,” she said.

Daang Maharlika in the region is passable to all types of vehicles, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) region 2, and communications landlines of PLDT – are all operational as of reporting time, and Mobile phones – are also all functional.
