TUGUEGARAO CITY, July 4 (PNA) — The government has appealed to the public to help secure and protect weather monitoring gadgets installed in strategic areas in the region, especially in the Cagayan River and its tributaties.
The appeal came from DOST Regional Office 2 after receiving reports about the deliberate tearing out or breakage of such gadgets by unscrupulous and conscienceless individuals in different areas where they were installed.
Science and Technology Specialist John Michael Taguiam of DOST Regional Office 2 said such gadgets were very important as these provided the data as bases in determining the possibilities of flashfloods, including the river’s water level for farmers to make important decisions for their farming activities.
“There are 106 weather monitoring gadgets already installed in the region and some of these have been dysfunctional, some have been stolen and destroyed”, Taguiam confirmed.
He identified gadgets installed in Gamu, Isabela and in Diffun, Quirino in 2013 that have now been replaced, after the original gadgets were either destroyed or stolen; those in Magat area in Isabela; in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya; and in Magapit, Lal-lo, Cagayan were all destroyed because their cable were cut.
Taguiam also appealed to LGUs to help secure the gadgets by placing some permanent enclosures or fences as protection like what LGU-Naguilian, Isabela did. (PNA)
