ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 4 (PNA) – The National Food Authority (NFA) has assured the public that this city is “fake-rice” free.
NFA Provincial Manager Gaudencio Nuega made this assurance as he led an inspection Friday of all rice outlets in this city and did not found fake rice, also known as synthetic rice.
Nuega’s group first inspected the rice outlets at the waterfront public market and later at the Sta. Cruz Commercial Complex.
Nuega said the inspection was aimed to ensure that there was no fake rice being sold at the local markets as well as to prevent the entry of such product.
Nuega’s group has also informed the businessmen selling rice to be vigilant to prevent the entry of fake rice by unscrupulous people.
He told the rice retailers that they could be held liable once caught selling fake rice.
The rice retailers said they would not venture to sell fake rice as it affected their business aside from the health condition of their customers.
Fake or synthetic rice were earlier discovered being sold in Davao del Sur area.
The appearance is similar to the real rice but looks like Styrofoam when cooked.
The person who would eat fake rice might suffer digestion disorder or worst might be poisoned. (PNA)
