BACOLOD CITY, July 3 (PNA) -– The multi-sectoral “Oplan Disiplina sa Dalan” has been formed in this city to boost road safety, traffic discipline among Bacolodnons.
Stakeholders spearheaded by Kasadya Bacolod Development Foundation Inc. (KBDFI) convened anew Friday to tackle the group’s collective proposal to raise awareness on traffic rules and road decorum, and discipline among students, motorists and pedestrians.
“We need massive participation; the mayor cannot solve this alone,” said KBDFI president Rhoderick Samonte.
The campaign, which now includes the Department of Education (DepEd), will run from August to September as a prelude to MassKara Festival in October.
Samonte said a multi-media campaign strategy will be employed in the implementation of “Oplan Disiplina sa Dalan.”
Dennis Estaniel, principal of Montevista Elementary School, said some schools have already included basic traffic rules and regulations in their curriculum.
Estaniel suggested placing streamers on school entrances as part of the group’s information and education campaign.
“This will enhance the capabilities of students to avoid accidents,” he added.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) head Rufino Alcala also noted possibility of tapping the barangays to assist in the implementation of “Oplan Disiplina sa Dalan.”
Aside from the barangays, the private sector was also included in the education component of the campaign.(PNA)
