CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, June 30 (PNA) — The city government has joined the nation in the month-long observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month to enhance public awareness on natural disasters.
City Mayor Edwin Santiago, in his message during Monday’s kick-off celebration, stressed the importance of being prepared in times of disasters.
Santiago said that various activities have been lined up for the month-long observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month that include an exhibit, poster-making contest, first aid and CPR/AED activity, barangay rescue Olympics, earthquake and fire drill and a seminar on building resiliency in vulnerable urban condition.
He said the month-long activities is being coordinated by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
”Our CDRRMO is preparing measures to mitigate the effects of disasters,” Santiago said.
CDRRMC head Raymond Del Rosario, for his part, said that, “the essence of the month-long celebration is to promote public awareness on natural hazards, and disseminate information on the steps to be undertaken to mitigate the effects of such hazards.”
Del Rosario said that it is the time for the people to focus their attention on the need to prepare for natural disasters.
July is declared as the National Disaster Consciousness Month by virtue of Executive Order No. 137 on August 10, 1999, to focus on raising public awareness of, and establishing safe and resilient communities against disasters. (PNA)
