PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, June 29 (PNA) -– The City Fire Department (CFD) is facing a blank wall on the cause of a fire that struck a shanty area along the waters here Sunday, engulfing 23 homes and rendering around 38 families homeless.
Fire Officer Cromwell Suico said the weekend fire that broke around 3 p.m. at Zone 3, Barangay Liwanag, a coastal community that faces the Puerto Princesa City bay, has left them guessing as to its cause.
He also disclosed they had difficulty controlling the fire due to the narrow passageways in the shanty area, and they could not immediately find a strategic location to bluster water.
Some of the families are now taking temporary shelter at a nearby Barangay Hall, he said, adding the others stayed with their relatives.
Initial investigation they conducted claimed the house may have started from a boarding house. No other details were given.
The fire took the CFD more than three hours before “fire out” was declared. No one was injured in the fire. (PNA)
