Posted on June 29, 2015

BAGUIO CITY, June 29 (PNA) — “The 106th Baguio Day Celebration is planned to be more festive that will target the young generation to enhance their knowledge and participation in during the celebration”, Baguio City Councilor Elmer Datuin, the Council Committee Chairman on Tourism, Special Events, Parks and Playground said Monday.

Datuin said the Baguio Charter Day Celebration Committee, which he also heads, emphasized the need to come up with a festive and colorful program and activities that would cater to the young people.

The Diorama or tableau-style parade on September 1, Baguio Day, will be pursued to give the traditional procession a livelier atmosphere.

The committee tasked the Department of Education – City Schools Division to coordinate and involve all schools in the preparations of the Diorama.

This will revive the tableau-style walk that used to be presented in the past which the late newsman Freddie Mayo annotated prompting then city council to approve a resolution making it a regular Baguio Day activity.

The City Health Services Office (CHSO) headed by Dr. Rowena Galpo will be conducting a clustered Health Fair where basic health needs of the people like free dental extraction, eye check-up, basic medical assistance and free medicine kits will be provided to families in need will be given on August 29.

On September 25, the HSO contemplated of having a conference type in educating and tackling teenage pregnancy to young students for them to be more aware and conscious on its effects and consequences.

In sports, major events are lined up to celebrate the City’s Charter, the National Arnis Championship, the annual Mr. Baguio Body Building contest, and the annual Baguio Day Scrabble Tournament, among others.

Other events are expected to be conducted in the month long celebration in order to promote athleticism and sports tourism in the “Summer Capital of the Philippines”.

The planned activities for this year is expected to beef-up the traditional parade and event like the search for Ms. Baguio Beauty Pageant and the presentation and awarding of the “Most Outstanding Citizens of Baguio”, Datuin said. (PNA)
