MANILA, June 22 (PNA) – Vice President Jejomar Binay tendered on Monday his irrevocable resignation from the Cabinet of President Benigno S. Aquino III “effective immediately.”
According to the vice president’s media affairs chief Joey Salgado, Makati City Rep. Abigail Binay hand-carried the resignation letter of her farther addressed to President Aquino.
”She was accompanied by Undersecretary Benjamin Martinez Jr., chief of staff of the Vice President. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa received the letter at around 3:55 p.m. at the Office of the Executive Secretary,” Salgado said in a press statement.
VP Binay is the Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers’ Concerns and Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
He resigned on the same day a Pulse Asia survey was released, showing that he is the top trusted government leader despite the allegations of corruption being investigated by the Senate.
Binay announced his intention to run for president right after his assumption as vice president in 2010.
Meanwhile, Malacanang is still confirming the resignation of VP Binay.
”Regarding the alleged resignation of VP Binay from the Cabinet, we are working on getting confirmation from the Office of the Executive Secretary,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a text message. (PNA)
