MANILA, June 21 (PNA) — Newly-promoted Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) head Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya, who got his third star last week, is very deserving of his promotion.
This was stressed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc on Sunday.
“We welcome his promotion to three-star (lieutenant general) rank. He deserves the rank as a long-time incumbent commander of the Southern Luzon Command. He has numerous accomplishments as commander of the Southern Luzon Command and his promotion makes him one of the candidates for the Chief-of-Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines. He is a candidate with his promotion (like other three-star generals),” he said.
This is in the wake of incumbent AFP chief Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang’s pending retirement from the service by mid-July after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Other contenders for the top AFP post include Air Force commander Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Delgado and Army head Lt. Gen. Hernando DCA Iriberri.
The order delegating Visaya to three-star rank was signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III last Thursday. (PNA)
