MANILA, June 19 (PNA) – Hedcor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., has started the commercial operations of its 14-megawatt (MW) Sabangan hydroelectric power plant in Mountain Province.
”AboitizPower wholly-owned subsidiary Hedcor has started commercial operations of the 14-MW Sabangan hydroelectric power plant, its first venture in Mt. Province, to provide additional power supply to the Luzon Grid,” Aboitiz Power said in a statement Friday.
Aboitiz Power said the power plant, which will harness the force of the Chico River, will deliver 55 Gigawatthours (GWh) yearly to the Luzon grid.
It started construction of the plant in 2013 and completed it on schedule this year.
It will likely avail of the Php 5.90 per kilowatthour (kWh) Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) allowance, which will allow it to charge at the rate for 20 years.
The project is the 22nd run-of-river hydro power plant of Hedcor, increasing its total capacity to 185 MW.
Aside from the Mountain Province project, Hedcor also owns and operates hydro power plants in Benguet, Davao City, Davao del Sur and Ilocos Sur.
Last April, Hedcor also held the groundbreaking for the construction of the 68.8-MW Manolo Fortich run-of-river hydro power plant in Bukidnon.
Aboitiz Power hopes to further expand its Cleanergy portfolio, seeking more geothermal, hydro and solar sites. (PNA)
