Cabanatuan LGU provides free use of farm tractors to farmers

Posted on June 18, 2015

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija, June 18 (PNA) — Farmers from this city can get free service of farm tractors which the local government has provided to help ease the burden of the agriculture sector by cutting down cost in land preparation.

The tractors will be managed by the Cabanatuan City Agricultural and Livelihood Management Office (CALMO) under Gregoria Esguerra.

Esguerra said farmers who will use the tractors by schedule will have to shoulder gas and operator expenses while the city government maintains the machines.

Francisco Sur, a farmer from Barangayt Kalikid Sur here, said the free use of tractor would give them savings of at least P3,000 per hectare in land preparation.

“This is a big help for us,” Sur said.

The city government, in coordination with the Department of Agriculture, also distributed certified seeds, organic fertilizer and effective micro-organism (EM) for 20 techno demo farms here.

Ria Vergara, president of First Cabanatuan Ventures Corp. (FCVC), said the entry of malls, hotels and other businesses that create at least thousands of jobs here does not make agricultural sector neglected.

”You (farmers) are the real ones that give life to the people. Without you, the whole Philippines country will have hard times because our country depends on rice three times a day,” Vergara said.

She said that Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara will continue to work hard for the betterment of agricultural sector.

”The seed is a symbol of hope and life. We should protect our agriculture because it is the one that will change our lives and our city. (PNA)
