Some Muslim communities in Laguna press for BBL passage, plan to go back home

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna June 18 (PNA) — Members of Laguna Muslim Community in this city signified their intention to go back to their homeland in Mindanao once the Bangsamoro Basic Law, now at the plenary of the House of Representatives and in the Senate Committee level, will be passed into law.

In an PNA interview here, Obet Abdullah, member of Sultanate League of Calamba and President of Muslim Entrepreneurs in the adjacent City of Cabuyao support the passage of the BBL since “it will promote unity, peace, justice and goodwill among all citizens as well as encourage a just and peaceful settlement of disputes which is stated in Article IV, section 5 of BBL draft.”

” We are hoping for the passage of BBL, because we want peace in Mindanao, and once BBL is enacted into law, the majority of Muslims here in Luzon will go back to their homeland and establish businesses there, the reason why we are here, because of feud and corruption.” Abdullah said.

Obet Abdullah is from Lanao del Sur associated with the Maranao tribe which also means “People of the Lake,” supporting the enactment of BBL into law..

“If BBL is implemented in Mindanao, businesses would increased. Tourists will visit our provinces and investors will be less scared to invest there,” Abdullah added.

Earlier, Attorney Sittie Amirah Pendatun, member of Government of the Philippines (GPH) peace panel’s legal team, clarifies ‘common myths’ of the BBL during the Calabarzon Media on June 16, 2015 at David’s Tea House, in Barangay (Village) Halang in this city.

Pendatun explained the BBL General Principles and Policies, identity and basic rights, Inter-Governmental relations, justice system in the Bangsamoro, Public Order and safety, Bangsamoro territory, the Fiscal Autonomy, Natural Resource, Economy and Patrimony .

Pendatun appealed to the public to read the draft of the BBL which is downloadable in their website (www.opapp.gov.ph) to gain better understanding of the context of the law, thereby debunking some myths associated with it through their own personal search and not to be swayed from people’s opinions unsubstantiated with facts.(PNA)
