What are Your Mac OS X Re-installation Options?

When you need to reinstall your Mac OS X operating system, might be due to system crash, operating system malfunction, removing system errors or to switch to later version, the Mac installation disk provides you several options to perform the operation. Some of the options among them may lead to data loss as they need hard drive formatting. In such situations, after reinstalling the operating system, you need to run Mac Data Recovery applications on formatted drive to retrieve lost data.

In the Option button screen, which is displayed while selecting the installation destination, provides you the below three options:

Upgrade to Mac OS X, Install Mac OS X: You might see any of these options there. It depends upon the fact that which version you have installed on selected volume. If this is an earlier version, Upgrade option would be there. While if you do not have any operating system on selected volume, Install option will be the only choice for you. Upgrade process does not interact with your system settings and applications. It takes lesser time than complete installation.

Archive and Install: If you are having a faulty or damaged Mac OS X operating system, it would be the best choice to go for. It will refresh entire operating system and move old files into a folder named “Previous System.” This procedure is completely safe from data point of vie, but needs more disk space and time. It gives you a choice to preserve your network and user settings before you start actual installation process.

Erase and Install: It is the least safe method form data point of view. It completely removes all of your data from hard drive and then installs operating system. Thus you should always create a complete backup of all your valuable data before you go for this process. It needs Data Recovery Mac to retrieve lost data.
