Construction of WV’s longest road set

Posted on June 15, 2015

ILOILO, June 15 (PNA) -– The provincial government here will start the construction of the 28-kilometer farm-to-market road which will pave the way for the development of Passi City.

This developed after Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. issued the notice for the contractor to proceed to the clearing and construction of the longest farm-to-market road in Western Visayas on Monday.

Provincial administrator Raul Banias said World Bank posed no objection to the construction Imbang Grande-Tagubong-Gemumua Agahon-Agtabo farm-to-market road making the bidding possible.

This PHP264-million project is among the priorities of Philippine Rural Development Project under the Department of Agriculture for 2015.

Eighty percent of the total cost is financed by Word Bank while the remaining 20 percent is divided as counterpart between the national government and local government unit.

The project was shortlisted in PRDP since it is in an area stricken by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 and the component city is among the top 10 swine producers in Iloilo.

Once completed, the project will directly benefit 4,080 households in 10 outlying barangays where the road traverses.

The improved road condition will specifically improve the people’s access to government services (e.g health, social services, education) and ease the transportation of agricultural products.

The said road begins at the junction of the national highway connecting Passi City and the municipalities of San Enrique and San Rafael.

It traverses Barangays Imbang Grande, Jaguimitan, Salngan, Alimono and will end in Barangay Tagubong.

From Barangay Tagubong, it branches out up to Barangay Gemumua-Agahon and it again expanded up to Barangay Dalicanan and end at Barangay Agtabo. (PNA)
