MANILA, June 11 (PNA) — President Benigno S. Aquino III on Thursday said the only support he can give to Vice President Jejomar Binay is the assurance of a peaceful and credible elections in 2016.
”Well the support he can get from me is my job to make sure that election is peaceful, believable and credible. That’s my last major task,” President Aquino said in a media briefing after the unveiling of two roads named after his parents in Iloilo City.
The President made this reaction to Binay’s statement that he is still hoping for an endorsement from President Aquino in 2016.
President Aquino said it would be presumptuous to say that the Vice President is seeking his support when in fact they ran under two separate political parties in the 2010 elections.
In 2010, President Aquino ran under the Liberal Party while Binay became Joseph Estrada’s running mate and ran under the banner of Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-LABAN).
In the 2013 midterm elections, Binay supported the opposition coalition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
President Aquino, chairman of the Liberal Party, earlier said he will announce his endorsement after his last State-of-the-Nation-Address (SONA) in July. (PNA)
