CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 11 (PNA) –- The “Telecommunication Policy Act of 1995” should be amended in order to rectify the problems of sluggish internet services in the country, a local legislator here said on Thursday.
City Councilor Edna Dahino, chair of the city council committee on trade, commerce, and cooperative, said that Congress should amend the provision of Republic Act 7925, the implementing law of the “Telecommunication Policy Act of 1995.”
She said that the City Council would pass a resolution to push for the amendment of the telecommunication policy after the local august body wound up an inter-committee probe that focused on the sluggish internet services here.
The inter-committee probe body later found out that one of the reasons for the sluggish internet services in the country is the lack of communication infrastructure, Dahino said.
She said that the city council inter-committee acted on the complaint of subscribers who complained on the slow internet services contrary to the advertisement of the telecommunication companies.
“The inter-committee body has invited concerned telecommunication agencies and the National Telecommunication (NTC) here to join the technical working group to tackle on the issue,” Dahino said.
She said that the members of the inter-committee has decided to pass a resolution urging Congress to amend the Telecommunication Policy Act of 1995 in order to correct and improve the country’s communication infrastructure and services. (PNA)
