ILOILO CITY, June 10 (PNA) — The city mayor here is contended with the developments going on in this highly urbanized city, stating that he couldn’t ask for more from President Benigno C. Aquino III except to say “thank you”.
“I don’t think that there is anything more to ask from him. He has already given us more than enough,” Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
President Aquino will hold a two-day visit to Iloilo starting Thursday for a site inspection of nationally-funded projects, flag raising ceremony at the municipality of Sta. Barbara to mark the country’s 117th Independence Day and the vin d’honneur.
The mayor said that it might be his last visit as President because 2016 is already election year.
“I don’t think that the vin d’honneur will be held here every year or the raising of the flag in Sta. Barbara. I think this is just a once in a lifetime experience so we just have to give him the best and be thankful that he has given Iloilo the recognition by holding the vin d’honneur and the raising of the flag and all of these projects,” he said.
Nonetheless, he expressed that since most of the activities are hosted by the provincial government, then the role of the city government is to make sure that Mr. Aquino and other visitors are comfortable while here in this city.
At around 6 p.m. of Thursday and in the morning of Friday, the city government will impose road closures for the two-day visit, the mayor said.
Mabilog also emphasized that there will be no suspension of classes on Thursday. (PNA)
