Posted on June 9, 2015

ILOILO CITY, June 9 (PNA) — Some 91 ambassadors are expected to join the 117th Independence Day national celebration in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo province on June 12.

National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy, in an interview Tuesday here, said preparations are ready for the Independence Day program to be led by President Benigno S. Aquino III.

He said the ambassadors will be joined by their spouses in the ceremony.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II and 20 other Cabinet members are also expected to join the event.

After the flag-raising ceremony, the traditional vin d honneur will be held at the newly renovated old capitol building at the heart of Iloilo City.

Before the Independence Day celebration, President Aquino is set to lead the unveiling of the marker of the old capitol or the Casa Gobierno.

”We are ready for the Independence Day celebration,” said Badoy.

The flag-raising in Sta. Barbara will be done simultaneous in various areas nationwide.

Badoy said Vice President Jejomar Binay will lead the ceremony at the Luneta Park.

The Independence Day celebration will be held in Sta. Barbara being the hometown of then Gen. Martin T. Delgado who led the revolt against Spanish colonizers in the famous “Cry of Sta. Barbara.” (PNA)
