4Ps grantees join SM’s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan training in Tagum City

Posted on June 8, 2015

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, June 8 (PNA) — The beneficiaries of 4Ps program in selected barangays of Tagum City were picked as beneficiaries of a month-long vegetable-growing training held in Barangay Madaum in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Cristie Angeles, program director for livelihood program of SM Foundation, said they partnered with the city government of Tagum for this project to help marginalized residents become beneficiaries of a training where they can start an income generating project even in their own backyard.

This training, she said, is the 5th in Davao Region. She said this is also an opportunity wherein barangay residents get to interact with each other as they embark on a goal that will eventually help them become sustainable.

“This is a mixed group of 150 participants where IPs, Muslims and Christians work together on tasks assigned to each group,” she said. She said the objective of the project is to help both the residents and the community at the same time.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional director for Region 11 Priscilla Razon on the other hand told the participants that they will provide funding assistance once they are ready to embark on a livelihood project.

“I encourage you to learn agri-farming and we are ready to assist you for a start up funding,” she told the participants in her brief message during theopening activity.

Harbest Agribusiness Corporation is SM’s partner in the conduct of the 12-session training where participants were taught how to grow, maintain, and propagate vegetables.

Celes Alla, training coordinator of Harbest said they will conduct both lectures and practical applications from planting to harvesting including fertilization and pest management. He also said they taught the participants the basics of business operations including marketing.

A graduation ceremony of all participants will be held after completing the 12 sessions. (PNA)
