ORMOC CITY, Leyte, June 2 (PNA) -– A station manager based in this city is pushing for more integrity among local broadcasters after his installation as new president of Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Eastern Visayas chapter.
Arwe Lam, a retired bank manager who manages his own FM station, was inducted on Saturday as new KBP president together with the rest of the officers by Fereolo Tupa who represented National Telecommunications regional director Samuel Young.
Francisca Custodio, DYVL station manager based in Tacloban City relinquished the post to Lam after 12 years.
Lam urged the press not to destroy other people by the use of the microphone just because they wanted to.
“Remember, we can make and unmake people,” he said.
To keep the industry alive, he encouraged all aspiring broadcasters to take the KBP accreditation and offered adopting those who would want to take the exam, being a requirement, come July 11.
Custodio pointed out that radio seemed like an “endangered species” due to the popular use of the social media these days.
However, “radio remains unique and the most in demand for it has the capacity to reach the remotest areas even those who do not have the convenience of the electricity.”
For this, she encouraged the broadcasters to uphold responsible broadcasting and focus on the accuracy of information rather than the speed.
“Never sacrifice the quickness of reporting over the correctness of information to avoid committing a disastrous airing,” she added.
Disciplined broadcasters are one that Custodio wants to maintain, after all the paramount goal of broadcast is to inform, educate and entertain.
Broadcast excellence is the paramount goal of KBP EV that she wanted to uphold.
She assured that radio will remain and forever be of service to the society in the field of information dissemination so she called the broadcasters to perform with intense dedication. (PNA)
