ILOILO CITY, June 1 (PNA) -– The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Iloilo continue to campaign against illegal gambling.
According to Teodora Sumagaysay, DILG Iloilo provincial director, a memorandum was sent by DILG 6 regional director Anthony Nuyda directing all the local government units and all local chief executives to examine if indeed there is the presence of illegal gambling in their respective municipalities.
“The memorandum is just generic and a sort of reinforcement of the national law”, Sumagaysay said.
The memorandum was also a proactive move of the DILG to stop illegal gambling in the whole Western Visayas.
As Iloilo province is concerned, Sumagaysay said that they had not received complaint about any alleged government official found to be a violator of the law on illegal gambling.
However, if ever there is an involved government official, Sumagaysay explained that DILG mandate orders to exercise general supervision over the affairs of the Local Government Units that include the baranggays, municipalities, city and province.
However, DILG 6 has no specific monitoring on the illegal gambling while the interior sector, Philippine National Police (PNP) and other attached agency have.(PNA)
