BAGUIO CITY, May 23 (PNA) — “Camp John Hay is fast becoming an economic hub” and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) President Eloise Agbayani assures transparency and integrity in running the businesses inside the former American Military Rest and Recreation facility.
Agbayani, in a press conference on May 22 said the 117 business enterprises inside the John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ) have a common goal of bringing in robust economic development for Baguio City and its people.
Agbayani said that JHSEZ is generating more jobs through the years which highly contributes to the increasing revenues in terms of taxes.
“Jobs generated in the last three years doubled with more than 4,000 employees inside the JHSEZ and 70 percent of them are in the Business Process Outsourcing companies of the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) and Convergys,” Agbayani said.
In compliance with the JHSEZ policy to prioritize the employment of local residents, Agbayani said 90 percent of the total workforce inside the zone are residents of Baguio City and the nearby Benguet municipalities of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay and some parts of Cordillera.
Based on the data gathered from the accommodation facilities inside Camp John Hay, accommodations increased by 13 percent or from 165,622 in 2013 to 187,153 tourists in 2014, Agbayani added.
Agbayani said they have established the John Hay Business Club (JHBC) which is the venue for JHMC and its locators to discuss business concerns and suggestions.(PNA)
