ILOILO CITY, May 18 (PNA) — Seaweed farmers from the province of Guimaras have been identified as recipients of a livelihood sub-project under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP).
Also proposed for the province under PRDP is a farm-to-market road, said Agriculture regional technical director for finance and administration Joyce Wendam.
Currently they are just waiting for the value chain analysis, which is a requirement under PRDP, she added.
Aside from the sub-projects, Guimaras is the only province in Western Visayas that qualified for the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) fund, still under PRDP.
“It could greatly improve the productivity of our fisherfolks here in Guimaras and not only the farmers,” Wendam said.
PRDP is a six-year program funded through World Bank loan, national government and the recipient local government unit and implemented by the Department of Agriculture (DA).
It also includes PHP287 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) that will be utilized for environmentally sustainable projects in selected areas in the country.
Of the PHP27.48 billion fund, PHP18.50 billion was allotted for infrastructure while PHP6.9 billion will be utilized for the value chain agri-fishery enterprises. (PNA)
