ILOILO CITY, May 15 (PNA) — A mass training for Grade 10 teachers has been initiated by the St. Paul University (SPU) here and the Department of Education (DepEd) to prepare them for the K-12 Basic Education Program.
Now ongoing is the training for 642 in Araling Panlipunan that will end on Saturday while 632 teachers will train for Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (Values Education) May 18-23.
They came from various divisions in Panay and Guimaras islands, according to Dr. Sunny Gabinete, dean of the SPU college of education.
The training seeks to equip the teachers to be “competent enough to deliver quality education,” he said.
“We hope that we can help in the attainment of the noble direction that the K-12 is actually forging for our citizen,” he added.
Last year the university also trained thousands of teachers as part of its initiatives in preparing teachers for the K-12 program.
SPU is one of the 100 schools in Western Visayas that were given probational permit to operate senior high school.
“We are willing to offer our resources to both public and private senior high school students who would like to avail of private education for Grade 11 comes 2016,” said Dr. Agnes Sy, vice-president for academic affairs.
It has also forged partnership with 13 secondary schools in Iloilo City to facilitate their possible enrollment in Grade 11.
Sy said that the university will offer one technical-vocational track and four general academics track. (PNA)
