MANILA, May 13 (PNA) — Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II has cited the Filipino healthcare professionals as key players in the nation’s economic progress.
“A healthy population means a more productive workforce and a healthier economy,” Roxas said in his address at the opening ceremony of the Philippine Dental Association’s 106th Annual Convention at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on Tuesday.
According to the DILG chief, it is highly probable for the Philippines to rise with its Asian neighbors with the continuous improvements in the economy and health services.
He noted that the government, through the Daang Matuwid campaign, has taken measures to empower and enable the Filipino people in maximizing their career potentials, such as health insurance from PhilHealth.
Roxas also expressed his gratitude to the PDA for being dedicated and committed in educating Filipinos on oral health practices and engaging in outreach programs for the improvement of dental health in the country.
“This is a thankless job. When things go well, no one remembers. When things go bad, no one forgets. But, we accept it because it is a part of our service,” Roxas said as he compared his role as DILG head with the healthcare professionals. (PNA)
