LAOAG CITY, May 11 (PNA) — Laoag City took pride as it received once again the award for the Cleanest, Greenest and Safest Local Government Unit (LGU) in Region 1 for 2015.
Laoag City shares the award with San Fernando City, La Union as they tied in the same category.
The search which is an annual program of the Regional Development Council (RDC) aims to give importance and honor to the contribution of the different LGUs in the protection, management and promotion of clean, safe and peaceful environment.
The RDC has conducted a series of evaluations and ocular inspections in various local governments in Region 1 according with regard their environmental management, public safety, and peace and order.
Last March 17, the Regional Search Committee Members validated the city’s practices for the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest Component City led by Jane Cacanindin of National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
Laoag City officials led by Association of Barangay Chairmen president Mikee Fariňas together with the Chief of Police of the City Col. Jeffrey Gorospe, Awards and Competition and Entry Committee head Lilian Abijero and and Community Affairs Officer Mylene Pascual received the award at the Hotel Ariana in Bauang, La Union.
The City Government of Laoag also held the title as the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest Component City for 2014.The city is also a Hall Of Fame Awardee for the title in the entire Philippines in the years 2000, 2001, and 2002.
This year, Laoag City ended up in a tie with the City of San Fernando, La Union while the cities of Vigan in Ilocos Sur and Alaminos in Pangasinan took the second and third places, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Ilocos Norte provincial government placed second runner-up in the Cleanest, Greenest and Safest, provincial level. Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur emerged the champion and 1st runner-up, respectively.
Provincial Planning and Development Office head Peter Agcaoili received the award for Ilocos Norte. (PNA)
